Note: Believing that it is important to be where the people are, I spent a lot of time attending powwows and accepting invitations to participate in functions. 


October 11, 2003 Port Royal Powwow, Clarksville

October 17-19 NAIA Powwow, Nashville

October 24 Chucalissa Museum Festival, Memphis ­ took 2 grandchildren out of school and their principal excused them for this cultural event.


November 6 Public Forum on TN Indian Issues, Bethel College, McKenzie, TN Participants: Middle TN Commissioner Jimmy Reedy, Attorney Joe McCaleb, David Teat, Brent Cox and I.

November 8 Program participant sponsored by NACPOT, Nashville Public Library Speech on history of "Tennessee's Indian People"

November 15 Advisory Council, MTSU, Murfreesboro

November 22  Dinner hosted by Commissioner Jimmy Reedy, Springfield

November 23 Fundraiser for Lee Trevino's defense, Sewanee


December 01 Rode the float sponsored by the Indigenous Intertribal Org in the Christmas parade, Cookeville, along with Commissioner John Hedgecoth

December 12 Reception, 11:00 ­ 2:00, welcoming home area troops from Iraq, Kenton; son Michael was one of the troops

December 13 Christmas dinner with Choctaws in Henning; several WTN caucus members collected Christmas gifts for the children


January 4, 2004 West TN/Memphis Meet and Greet held in Jackson at State Agricultural Center, which was successful and beneficial to both groups that we plan to have another meeting together

January 05 Attended the Gibson County Commission, Trenton; addressed CWC's Resolution which the GC Commission tabled, then later rejected

January 13 Presentation on Native American history and traditions, DAR, Union City/Martin chapters

January 15 Madison County Commission, Jackson, 9:00 AM concerning the CWC resolution for state recognition; resolution rejected

January 15 11:00 AM, Legislative Plaza; Ray Emanuel, Commissioner Jimmy Reedy, Donna Bivens and I visited Sen. Don McLeary's office who rescinded his support of the CWC's resolution for state recognition to the Senate

Also visited other legislators including Rep. Mike Kernell

January 17 TNNAC, MTSU, Murfreesboro

January 20-27 Spent time in two hospitals; diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver

January 31       TCIA meeting, Nashville


February 17   Injunction hearing, CWC vs. TNCIA, Huntingdon; Donna Bivens and Jo Nicholson went as observers

February 21 ACTIA, MTSU, Murfreesboro; did not attend

February 24 Civil Rights Conference, UTM, Martin; Native American Day

3:00 PM Donna Bivens and I had an exhibit of our Native American collection.

7:00 PM Panel on TN Indian Affairs Participants: Corky Allen, Cubert Bell, Sr., Brent Cox, Dale Mitchell, Jo Nicholson and I to a crowd of about 300, mostly students


March 6 Chikamaka Stomp Dance/Ceremonies, Tracy City, along with Donna Bivens and Jo Nicholson

March 7 MTSU Powwow, Murfreesboro

March 26 Participated in Sweat Lodge at Bottom View Farms, Portland, and Healing Ceremony by Lakota Floyd Hand


April 17 Chucalissa Powwow, Memphis Commissioner Ruth Knight Allen and I were judges for the Girl's dance Competitions

April 23-25 Powwow, Sparta, where veterans were honored, particularly my son Michael who was honored with many gifts


May 04  Visited TDEC offices and talked with General Counsel Joe Sanders and met Ed Harris, the General Counsel assigned to TCIA and AG Barry Turner

May 14-16 Cumberland Plateau Powwow, Cookeville, where my son was the Head Vet

May 22 Honor the Ancestors powwow, Portland


June 07 Native American Dance Theatre, Nashville Visited TDEC office going over petition from Lawrence County Cherokees
